Hospice Chaplain Lori Parks of In Home Solutions, WRC Senior Services’ home health, home care and hospice agency, recently became ordained as a minister.
A lifetime Curwensville resident, Parks has been with In Home Solutions for approximately a year and a half.
Parks completed an online course of study to become officially ordained.
Hospice care is provided to individuals with terminal illnesses.
As Hospice Chaplain, Parks’ duties consist of assessing the spiritual needs for each patient and family and providing spiritual counseling if desired, after the patient is admitted for services. She then develops a spiritual plan of care that meets the needs of the patient and family, including collaboration with local clergy when possible.
Some of Park’s spiritual services include conducting prayer and church services, providing bereavement support for families and assisting and officiating funeral and memorial services if requested.
In Home Solutions continues to provide bereavement support and counseling for family members up to 13 months after the patient’s passing.
Parks’ path to becoming an ordained minister began in 2010 at the Jubilee Christian Center in Hyde, PA, where she took several courses to further her spiritual education and also worked as a prayer minister.
“My journey started out, really, just to get a closer look at helping myself, as well as helping others to live in victory and understand the love of God,” said Parks.
Prior to coming to In Home Solutions, Parks was the Spiritual Care Coordinator-Certified Bereavement Coordinator for Asera Care Hospice in Brookville.
She also worked for 19 years as a Certified Grief Counselor for Clearfield Hospital.
In Home Solutions serves all of Clarion and Jefferson Counties and parts of Armstrong, Venango, Forest, Clearfield and Elk counties.
In Home Solutions is an agency of WRC Senior Services, a not-for-profit organization that has been providing care for older adults in the area for over 125 years.
