Laurelbrooke Landing Celebrates Homecoming Week
(Brookville, PA)- Laurelbooke Landing in Brookville recently celebrated home during its 3rd annual Homecoming Week.
Laurelbrooke Landing is a continuing care retirement community of WRC Senior Services.
Laurelbrooke Landing offers different neighborhoods for all levels of independence, including residential housing, assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing and rehab.
Homecoming Week is a nationwide event during which senior care providers host a variety of activities to celebrate the home they provide to the nations' elderly.
Several events took place at Laurelbrooke Landing during Homecoming Week for the residents and their families to enjoy. Some popular events included the Senior Olympics, a Senior/Senior Banquet and a Future of Aging Legislative Forum.
During the annual Senior Olympics, there were five games for the residents to take part in - golf, bowling, basketball, lasso golf and a bean bag toss.
Residents competing had the chance to win a gold medal or a ribbon of participation.
Dave Campbell, Executive Director at Laurelbrooke Landing, said, "It's important to our seniors to celebrate and have fun. Even as you age, you still can compete in athletic events!" Around 50 residents participated in the fun event.
Several residents also took part in the Senior/Senior Banquet during Homecoming Week. At the banquet, 17 local seniors graduating from Brookville Jr./Sr. High School dined with 14 residents of Laurelbrooke Landing.
"We love to have this event because it's bringing these two generations together," said Campbell.
During their luncheon, the two generations got to interact and learn of each other's lives. Campbell said, "It's great to see our residents' eyes light up when they tell stories of when they graduated and seeing the high school seniors' faces light up as they talk about their bright futures!"
Residents shared stories and photographs of their years in high school and also got a look into the lives of high school seniors today.
Resident Kathy Fulmer said, "The students were very attentive and wanted to know what we thought. The students were not bashful about coming right in and talking. I'd go again!"
Also during Homecoming Week, it was important to spend some time discussing how to maintain and ensure the future of homes for the elderly like Laurelbrooke Landing. That is why a legislative forum was held.
During the forum, a panel and the audience discussed the future of aging services in Jefferson County.
The panel included U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, State Rep. Sam Smith and President-CEO of WRC Senior Services Fran Roebuck Kuhns.
Other aging services providers, as well as residents, family members and WRC staff, were invited to attend and encouraged to express their thoughts and opinions.
Laurelbrooke Landing hopes to make the legislative forum an annual event to help with grassroots advocacy efforts and promote discussion and cooperation between aging services providers in Jefferson County.
